In Reading, we launched our fourth reading unit, Readers Learn About the World (Nonfiction). We learned how to take a sneak peek and how to study each page carefully. We saw that non-fiction books have different text features than fiction. Here are the features we will be taking a closer look at throughout this unit:
In Word Study, we learned about syllables and trigraph "tch". We learned that a syllable is a word or part of a word with one vowel sound. An open syllable has a long vowel sound. A closed syllable has a short vowel sound. We also learned that "tch" is used at the end of short vowel words. The "t" is silent. We learned the following heart words: been, into, friend, because, woman & women. Please practice the following this coming week:
In Math, we continued learning about larger numbers in Unit 4, Numbers to 99. This week we learned how to read two-digit numbers and saw that all two-digit numbers are composed of tens and ones.
We learned how to interpret and make different base-ten representations of two-digit numbers (drawings, words, and addition expressions).
In Science, we started our first Science Unit-Let's Ask Nature. We read Ada Twist Scientist and Rosie Revere Engineer. We saw that scientists observe, wonder, and ask questions in order to solve problems.
